Am-Lit Norton Style

Now, I know on some level that I am supposed to hate Norton Anthologies because they pigeon-hole and canonize and erase and normalize and all other horrible human faults that we warn our students (and hopefully our society) against, but I must say that my father (all on his own bidding) went out one Christmas and wrapped me one up and I was pleased, oh very pleased. I mean there is this weight that gives one such a tactile sense of knowledge. And when something like AMERICAN LITERATURE gives you so much please and someone hands over (your father no less) a great, big fat guide to a large smatter of (what some consider, I grant you) the best of it. Well, there’s something to it, no doubt.
Plus, they have this fine 1820-1865 timeline and the table of contents online.
